Two Semi-Related Thingsies

Hey there. Happy Friday. Firstly PHISH has released their new single "Time Turns Elastic" on I-Tunes. The boys are in the studio recording some new material before they hit the road for their long awaited Summer Tour beginning May 31st. Check out their Tour Dates HERE. Damn I'm excited, too bad I probably won't be going. Anyway.....

PHISH "TIME TURNS ELASTIC" AVAILABLE AT iTUNES from Phish on Vimeo.

Secondly, the Dave Matthews Band will release their upcoming album "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" which is dedicated to the band's saxophonist, the late Leroi Moore, who passed away this past august on June 2nd. BUT. You can go and stream the whole album from Pandora for free right now. So, go HERE and enjoy while you can, then go buy it on Tuesday. See these two things were sort of related. On a side note, I do realize that both of these pictures are extremely lame.

Baseball Dance-Off

This is pretty hilarious.

Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse Update

As I said a few weeks ago, the new album/project from producer Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse (Danger Horse? Sparklemouse?) will be released in packaging including a blank disc with no music on it. So, if you do end up purchasing it, download the album HERE, take the blank disc, put it in your computer, and burn yourself some tunes. Or if you'd rather...just download it. Enjoy.

Ch-Check It Out... New Beastie Boys Album

Last night on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" the Beastie Boys announced that they will be releasing their new album titled "The Hot Sauce Committee" this September. Gotta love the Beasties, I personally can't wait wait!

Check out their performance of the Beastie classic "So What'cha Want" HERE.

Davis and Dylan. Did You Know....?

Happy Memorial Day everyone. A little tidbit of information that I hadn't ever realized. Did you know that music legends Miles Davis and Bob Dylan were born two days apart from one another? (well and over a decade apart as well but nonetheless). Yep, that's right. Robert Allen Zimmerman (Bob Dylan) was born on May 24, 1941 and two days later (and 15 years earlier) Miles Davis was born on May 26, 1926. Pretty cool that two of the greatest and most highly regarded musicians of all time almost share a birthday. Oh well, maybe it's not as cool as I think it is. Anyway. I'll leave you with a few videos of the guys.

New Radiohead in the Works?

Yahoooo! I can't say that I'm not excited:

Radiohead have started working on the follow up to their 2007 album In Rainbows. Bassist Colin Greenwood told 6 Music the Oxford band have been busy in the studio over the last week with producer Nigel Godrich. "It was very noisy and chaotic and really fun," he said. "It’s at the stage where we’ve got the big Lego box out and we’ve tipped it out on the floor and we're just looking at all the bits and thinking what’s next?"

"I'm very impressed and grateful for Nigel our producer and his ability to make it all sound vaguely plausible," he added. Greenwood, who was speaking at the Great Escape music festival in Brighton, where he was helping to launch a new music journal called Loops, gave no indication as to when the Oxford five-piece will be releasing their next record or whether they will be briging it out in a similar format to their last LP.

"It's at the stage where we've got the big Lego box out and we've tipped it on the floor." Colin Greenwood on Radiohead's new album. Last time, Radiohead offered fans the chance to choose how much they were prepared to pay for In Rainbows.

"We were just saying to people how much do you think we're worth?" he added.

"It's like a long term relationship and it was great because it kicked off lots of debate about it." The band have just finished touring with electro pioneers Kraftwerk in South America which Greenwood described as a "brilliant experience".

"They are one of our musical heroes and it was a real privilege to share a stage with them," he enthused.

"What I like about Kraftwerk is I obviously love the beats but I love their melodies too. They seep into your brain and stay there."

The five-piece are due to headline the Reading and Leeds Festivals this summer for a headline show where they have some unfinished business.

"It was a bit frustrating when we were playing some of our own shows last year because it was light for the first half hour, 40 minutes of the show," Greenwood said.

"So we wanted to do it as it was meant to be seen – darker and louder."

Dark Night Of The Soul (Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse)

Apparently the new album/project from Danger Mouse and Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse titled "Dark Night Of The Soul" will not not even include any music on it! There are some sort of legal problems with EMI and for fear of being sued, the packaging of the album will contain a limited edition, hand numbered 100+ page book and will come with a blank recordable CD-R.

Although, that doesn't mean you can't hear the album for free online! I'm sure you can also download it on some P2P site but for now you can also stream the album in its entirety from NPR.

Group You Might Not Know...

It's been a little while but here is this week's artist/group you may not know of. Duck Down Records and Boot Camp Clik rap group O.G.C (Originoo Gunn Clappaz). The group features three members (each with about 3 nicknames): Starang Wondah (Gunn Clappa Numba One, Big Will, Hurricane Starang, and Da Beast From Da East); Louville Sluggah (Gunn Clappa Numba Two, Hennyville Guzzler, Henny); and Top Dog (Gunn Clappa Numba Three, Big Kahuna, and D-O). This group is pretty slept on but their 1996 release, Da Storm made it to the #10 position on the R&B/Hip-Hop Charts. They have that classic raw hip hop sound that you can just put on and vibe to. Although the group hasn't put out anything since The Boot Camp Clik’s 2005 compilation release, The Last Stand, their early work stands the testament of time and is some quality old school hip hop. Check em' out.

Beatboxing at Google?

A friend of mine sent me this video and I thought it was pretty amazing. It's 18 minuets long and I actually watched the entire thing. Check out at least some of it. Man, Google must be a fun place to work...
