Get Up Offa That Thang !!!

The hardest working man in show business, The Minister of the New New Super Heavy Funk, Soul Brother Number One, Mr. Dynamite, Mr Please Please Please, The Godfather of Soul, none other than the late great Mr. James Brown !!!!!!

Whooooooo weeee!!!!

The man certainly has a legacy behind him. The music, the hair, the moves!!!, THE CAPE!!!, the...samples?

What?

Yeah! Along with George Clinton, Kool and the Gang, and Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown is one of, if not the most sampled artist of all time. One song, actually one specific section of a song, Clyde Stubblefield's drum break/solo in the song "Funky Drummer is possibly the MOST sampled recording of all time. That one section has been sampled in (well) over 100 different songs.

Seriously, check it out!

Phhheww!! Good lord brother man, that's a lot of songs (and it might not even be all of them!)

Here, listen to a few.

You have to hear the original first.

Sinead O'Connor (weird!?)

Sublime!

Daedelus

Pop Will Eat Itself
(actually about James Brown)

Run DMC

Okay that's your music lesson for the day. Get goin' ! Oh, and respect your elders.

Rest in Peace, James Brown.

Saturday Morning Funk-Up

Good afternoon folks, here's some Club D'elf layin down those funky funky grooves to help get you through this lousy weather. I don't know about you but I've had enough of this "nor'easter" B.S.

Marcus Miller Monday

ENJOY

Rubblebucket Orchestra

I had the pleasure of catching the Rubbelbucket Orchestra last weekend at the Draught Horse/Cherry Pit just off of Temple's campus in North Philadelphia. This Massachusetts based band's peaceful lyrics and funky, danceable grooves really impressed me and they honestly had one of the most energetic performances I have seen in quite some time. At one point during the show, the band's horn section jumped off stage and began marching, jumping on things, and dancing throughout the bar. It was extremely entertaining and very impressive. Definitely check them out if you get a chance. You can listen to/get a copy of their album HERE

Some Videy-Yahs To Start You Off

In my opinion, two pretty damn good musicians (John Scofield and Jaco Pastorius) playing a pretty damn funky tune.

Also in my opinion, Miles is the man.

Buckethead is a sick. A lot of the time he just shreds and a good amount of his material sounds similar but I feel this song shows his versatility.

I think this is pretty awesome. Check out their music video for this too. Oh yeah and the band's name is Holy Fuck (not very commercially friendly but i think they are cool)

Some Old School Roots

Biggie Freestlye

Les Claypool is a wild man.

If you have the time, watch all of these videos from Bob Dylan's 1965 press conference. They are great.

Ohhhh The Dead.

Who would have thought?

These guys (Fleet Foxes) are finally getting the recognition they deserve. I'm happy for them

Vampire Weekend is another band i can't stop listening to.

Myself. White Castle.

I think this is going to take off in a few years. It's getting there with the iPhone, all the other touch phones, and the new touchscreen computer that just came out. Also I think it was CNN who had that touch screen map they used the night of the Presidential Election.

This thing on the other hand..I don't know what the hell Microsoft is doing. I know this is a parody but the Songsmith program is real.
