Molecules = Sick Ass Huge Drums
I just found out about these crazy drums this morning when I was looking at some of Deadmau5's pictures from the Ultra Music Festival and just so happened to see Tommy Lee sitting at them. Pretty wild.
Oh Yeah and check out Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing a set.

Not really sure why I'm putting this here, but nonetheless I am. I watched this experimental, surreal, whatever film by Maya Deren in a Horror class a few months back and it made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The combination of minimal instrumental shrill Japanese folk music and repeating scenes over and over again really got to me.
I suggest not even watching it.... unless you are one of those sweet film kids.
Marketing is the Last Step....
From the Lefsetz Letter....
I feel it's been a little while since Bobby has said something that caught me ear, but dammit he's on to something! But I've been saying this for a while now! In all of the rambling I did in that post, I essentially meant the same thing here. If you do or make something good, people are going to realize it.
Okay, enough "tooting my own horn" (where the hell did that come from anyway?).

Marketing is the final step these days. It's about positioning. It's about imaging. Like those iPod billboards. They don't tell you much, they just remind you how hip the product is.
So don't bother attending marketing seminars. Don't listen to the major label tell you how it used to be. Just practice, practice, practice. Make something insanely great. And post it online. Hell, give it away for free. Because if it's really good, people will ultimately clamor around you to give you their money...for concert tickets, t-shits and signed CDs, even if they only listen to MP3s. Because believers need badges of honor. They want to evidence what's close to their hearts. It's the key to logos on clothing. Shit, no one wants to sport a JCPenney or Wal-Mart logo just like no one wants to help you sell your lame music.

New Season of South Park!!!!!
I somehow managed to forget about the new season of South Park, nonetheless it's up online already. Check it out, it's absolutely hilarious. I honestly haven't laughed that hard at a TV Show in a while (the monkey scene). Just Watch
Broken Bells Video
So you take Danger Mouse (that's all I needed to hear to get me to listen to this) and James Mercer (from The Shins, okay cool, i don't really listen to them but that's fine. I've heard good things) and you put them together and you get Broken Bells.
Pretty good stuff. Albums out now. Check it
Jack Johnson....Hair
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA holy shit I guess I haven't seen this guy in a while. Hilarious. (on a side note, I used to be a pretty big Jack Johnson fan. I don't care, his old stuff was great and always reminds me of summer)

Back in Action (LA Wrap-up)
Eyo I'm back from LA, La, Land and I must say I really enjoyed myself. For the 4 full days (and 2 partials) I was there I saw and did a hell of a lot.
Checked out Hollywood, Santa Monica, Malibu, Salona Beach, and San Diego. Saw Kat Von D's "High Voltage Tattoo", the Kodak Theater ( the day after the Oscars), the Chinese Theater, Sunset and Hollywood Blvds, a taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live, UCLA's campus, Amoeba Records, Beverly Hills, the pier at Santa Monica, ate at In n' Out Burger, went to the Farmer's Market, Barney's Beanery, saw a Scientology church (inadvertently), and probably a bunch of other things I am forgetting.
Probably one of my favorite things in all of LA was The Getty Center. A sweet as museum with a shit load of paintings and other art. If you aren't into that, the architecture of the buildings is amazing in of itself, as well as its' location, which is all the way up on a mountain in the Beverly Hills. And it's free! (if you don't park there, which is $15).
Here's a picture of it:
Overall I had a really good time and I'm pretty sure that this won't be the last time that I spend some time in Los Angeles.

Pretty Lights' first EP in the trilogy to be released in 2010, "Making Up A Changing Mind", is out NOW. Go download it free (along with the rest of his albums) right HERE
(From his e-mail list)
Making Up A Changing Mind is a collection of six tracks, produced in January and February of 2010. Stylistically I fuse hip-hop production with elements of electro & dubstep, and combine that with the organic timbres and raw feeling of old school soul & funk, to, hopefully channel a number of feelings that pertain to the concept of the EP... In more than one way, this EP is a reflection of the massive changes I'm going through in my life and recent decisions I've had to make regarding my relationships, my career, and my music. From the lyrics of the vocal samples, to the fusion of production styles, even to the model and timeframe in which this EP is being released... this album speaks to the importance of adapting in a changing and surprising world. All will change with time... the future none can see. In the reconciliation of seemingly opposing options (making up a changing mind) we can hope to find new perspectives and better ways to move forward. ~Derek Vincent Smith
