Wu Cap (UPDATE)
Somebody buy me this
There might be a few problems though:
1. It's sold out
2. It's in Japanese and I can't figure out how to order it anyway
3. The smallest, 7 and 3/8 size is too big (I'd get it anyway)
4. That's it.
Wu baby!!!!!
***UPDATE***
Wait, shit's actually like 65 bucks. Too expensive man. Still cool though

iPad = Giant Unnecessary iPod Touch
Oh my Gad the feckin' iPad.
In my opinion this thing is completely unnecessary. Kind of cool, but so is the iPhone, and the iTouch...which this thing is just the bigger version of. It needs to do something different.

New Gorillaz Single/Album
YES!
I dig the Gorillaz, a lot.
Not just the music but the whole idea of the Gorillaz is just cool.
That being said, they are working on their new album, Plastic Beach, which is being recorded on a floating plastic island in the middle of the ocean (or something like that) and should be out on March 8th . Additionally they will be headlining Coachella (April 16th-18th) this year!
Anyway, here's their new single Stylo. (pretty good)
Here's the tracklist:
1. Orchestral Intro (featuring Sinfonia ViVA)
2. Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach (feat. Snoop Dogg and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble)
3. White Flag (feat. Kano, Bashy and The National Orchestra For Arabic Music)
4. Rhinestone Eyes
5. Stylo (feat. Bobby Womack and Mos Def)
6. Superfast Jellyfish (feat. Gruff Rhys and De La Soul)
7. Empire Ants (feat. Little Dragon)
8. Glitter Freeze (feat. Mark E Smith)
9. Some Kind Of Nature (feat. Lou Reed)
10. On Melancholy Hill
11. Broken
12. Sweepstakes (feat. Mos Def & Hypnotic Brass Ensemble)
13. Plastic Beach (feat. Mick Jones & Paul Simonon)
14. To Binge (feat. Little Dragon)
15. Cloud Of Unknowing (feat. Bobby Womack and Sinfonia ViVA)
and here's a little teaser video jawn
and another little teaser video jawn
MARCH 8TH!

Farewell Conan
Well, it's finally over.
After only 7 months of hosting the Tonight Show, Conan O'Brien is gone. I know I've said before that I'm more of a Leno fan, but this was a pretty lousy situation overall. I don't understand how NBC can give someone a show, especially the Tonight Show, for 7 months and then basically boot them off.
Conan's a smart, genuine, and hilarious guy and I am very sure we will see him or his work in the very near future.
But for now, he's a Free Bird (ha!)
Best of luck man.

Pocah...Avatar
Finally saw the super-hyped about Avatar movie (in 3D!!!) last night. James Cameron essentially ripped off the entire Pocahontas story (thanks Alice)...just with aliens.
Let me lay it down for you:
The Na'vi (aka Native Americans, Indians, "different" people) have something (precious mineral in the movie, LAND in real life) that the "Sky People" (aka 'Merika!!! aka Earthlings, aka Colonists) want.
The Na'vi (Native Americans) are one with the land and don't want to give it up. So, the Sky People (colonists) send a guy (Jake Sully as an Avatar in the movie, John Smith (right?) in real life.) to infiltrate the people's village, learn their culture, and take advantage of them.
Of course that doesn't go as planned and there is a big war and lots of people are killed. BUT unlike in real life, and Pocahontas, the aliens win!!! So it's not really the same at all right?
Now my little rant might make you think I didn't enjoy the movie. Not true.
It's visually awesome and wild and stunning and cool. And absolutely worth seeing! Now that doesn't mean I agree with spending 237 million dollars to make a movie while our country is in a recession but, I guess someone needs to figure out ways for people to make and spend money. Entertainment is the way to go! (Really though, we don't NEED it, but it makes people happy and gives them something to do)
Go see it!
Okay bye.

Ghostride The Whip
Know what's hilarious? Ghostridin'.
You know; when you bump some fresh beats, put your car in neutch, hop out, and dance around while your car is still moving forward.
It was a part of that big Hyphy craze a few years back (thanks E-40 and Keak Da Sneak) and as you can see by the poster above, they even made a movie.
Here are a few examples for your viewing pleasure
Mistah FAB layin it down.
do it with some friends
or like this
or even this!
it's all fun, then this happens.

I somehow failed to mention the band who opened for Railroad Earth when I saw them. A serious bluegrass string band, The Infamous Stringdusters. If you are a fan of bluegrass check these guys out. I was thoroughly impressed.
Here's a copy of their opening performance. Thanks again to Jamie Burks.

Jay vs Conan

I'm sure by now most people have heard at least something about this whole NBC, Jay Leno, and Conan O'Brien thing going on. Basically, after a few months of Conan running "The Tonight Show" and Jay being moved down to 10:00 to host his own "Jay Leno Show", ratings for both shows have gone down. CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" is beating NBC's "Tonight Show" and NBC is looking to do a little rearranging.
According to the Chicago Tribune, one solution would be to move Jay's show to 10:35 (for half an hour) and move the Tonight Show down to 11:05. A separate article from the Associated Press mentioned that:
, which could also provide Leno with another spot (possibly 11:05?).
NBC's contract with O'Brien reportedly allows the network to move "Tonight" to 12:05 a.m. EST but no later, at the risk of substantial financial penalties.
Yet another possibility, mentioned in the same article, is that NBC does away with Conan altogether, moves Jay back to the "Tonight Show", and Conan possibly gets picked up by Fox.
All this talk about time changes and shows moving around may bring about another issue that hasn't been addressed (at least to my knowledge), What will happen to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon or even Last Call with Carson Daly? It seems like there hasn't been any mention of what would happen to the time slots for these shows. There won't be an issue unless the other shows get pushed back to later slots but if they do, who is going to stay up until 3am or later every night watching these shows?
I don't have a solution; it just looks like NBC is sort of screwing things up here. I will say this though, I'm a fan of almost all late night TV (although it hasn't been that great in a while), but I've always been a Leno guy myself. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.
oh yeah. What's up Ludwig?

The Flaming Dark Lips of the Moon: A Review

album review,
dark side of the moon,
flaming lips,
pink floyd
(Sorry about the dinky little picture. I really couldn't find a bigger one of the actual album artwork)
Now that I have given the Flaming Lips' cover of "Dark Side of the Moon" a few listens I feel I can now make a judgment call about it.
Before even listening to the album, I had extremely high hopes, but at first listen I was almost offended. "What the hell is this shit?", I thought to myself. I was taken aback, being such a huge fan of the original album and even previous other cover attempts (such as Easy Star All-Stars 'Dub Side of the Moon'). I realized though, that I had approached this album from a wrong angle. This wasn't Pink Floyd, this wasn't even The Flaming Lips during their Soft Bulletin or Yoshi Battles the Pink Robots days. This was The Flaming Lips, right NOW, after releasing Embryonic and reaching back to their Psych-Rock-Acid-Punk freakout days (but not totally forgetting their musical endeavors over the last 10 years).
Taking that into consideration, I retract my distaste of the album. The Lips (with help from Stardeath and White Dwarfs, Peaches, and Henry Rollins) actually did a pretty nice job with it. It's ambitious and it's very Lips-esque, as it should be. A complete freakfest, with some interesting moments (and some not so interesting).
Here's an extremely brief and very lacking in vocabulary description runthrough/commentary of said "interesting moments" and "not so interesting" moments on the album:
1.Speak to Me / Breathe is done pretty well
2. the danceable On The Run jam is one of my favorites
3. Time wasn't too great (Dennis Coyne's voice sounds kind of weak and lame on it but the Breathe Reprise was cool.
4. The Great Gig In the Sky is cool (really nice try with Clare Torry's crazy vocal part.
5. Money starts of with potential but it's overall pretty horrible after the first 50 seconds, no energy really.
6. I miss the echo parts in Us and Them but overall it's pretty good.
7. Any Colour You Like is great (the screaming/scatting in the background is kind of hilarious.)
8. Brain Damage is more of a somber tune and fits Dennis's voice better. So with that in consideration, it's not too bad.
9. Eclipse has a similar feel to the original but for some reason I feel like it's missing something (maybe the background vocals?) nonetheless it's good.
And that's it!
This album is definitely worth a listen. Check it out.
